Lets have a break from weddings for a while and give ways to a real hardcore scene. A ceremony full of culture, ritual, full of colors and emotions celebrated by the hindus all over the world, Thaipusam.

“Thaipusam is a Hindu festival celebrated mostly by the Tamil community on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai (Jan/Feb). It is also referred to as Thaipooyam or Thaippooyam in the Malayalam language. The word Thai-pusam is derived from the month name Thai and Pusam, which refers to a star that is at its highest point during the festival. The festival commemorates both the birthday of Murugan (also Subramaniam), the youngest son of god Shiva and his wife Parvati, and the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a vel (spear) so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman” ~ wikipedia

Thaipusam 2010

January 31, 2010

dsc_5513

Since 3 years ago, I used to tell myself, thats it . I am not going to shoot thaipusam again. This year, i told myself i need to do this.. again. Shooting for Thaipusam is not something casual and laid back. You need to be ready to wake up early, bear the baaad traffic and patient enough to get the parking, be in a massive crowd, being pushed back and forth.. and the heat.

And i know i never regret doing it again for the second time this time around. More writeups and pictures on it in my next post.

Year end madness!

January 13, 2010

The final 2 months of 2009 was crazy super hectic months for me. A back to back shooting, restless weekend on wedding photoshoots and most and foremost editings and client’s albums.

The highlight of 2009 wedding client was Meen and Munir’s private lil reception. Even though its held in 2010 but i consider it a closure of my 2009 calendar. Decided to have a rest for a month or 2 to concentrate on the album making. Told myself to rest but anyway, I don’t have the heart to ignore incoming inquiries. i’m blessed with more potential clients for 2010. Lots of emails coming in asking for dates and quotations.. The blood and sweat pays off.

Less is more. Thats what i can say about Meen and Munir’s private reception held at the penthouse of Plaza Crowne Mutiara Hotel. When i say less, is not about the preparation or how mediocre the wedding is, the invitation is only for family and close friends to witness this celebration of love of Munir and Meen. The size of the penthouse is great for a small private function, the view is breathtaking.. The cocktail area is facing the twin tower. Too bad it was raining that night so event was fully held indoor. Don’t mind it.. the deco speaks it all. The best so far I might say.. Razak Ahmad, the prolific floral designer is behind all the “OMG its breathtakingly beautiful” setting and decoration. Engraving his name internationally and need i mention he was involved in designing for the weddings of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore and Tom Green. I’m not surprised. He’s totally talented! Good news to bride and groom to be, he’s back to Kuala Lumpur to run his business here after 18 years in the US. (no i did not interview him that night, but i did some google work here.. heheh)

I will start this post with the appetizer.. the deco.. the flowers, the blooms of the night. It was massive traffic congestion along the street of Sultan Ismail. I left the house at 4.30pm as the bride wants me to be there at 6pm for the make up session. It was 6pm and i was stuck for an hour at 5km to destination. Crazy! I text Meen asking if the makeup artist has arrived.. phew lucky me she was also stuck in the jam. Bad traffic!

I managed to arrive at the penthouse around 6.30pm. Not so bad.. the makeup artist wasn’t there yet so i decided to have a peek at the lower penthouse to capture some deco. The moment i step into the room my eyes were glued at the flower arrangements, the table setting and the string of lights hung on trees. Its like entering into a paradise of blooms. Its beyond words to describe how grandeur they were. I was dumbfounded for a mo and did not know where to begin.. It took a moment for me to take out the camera and shoot. I decided to feast my eyes first and plan my shooting. I took out my baby 50mm and start capturing every essence of it. Small details shouldn’t bring to waste.. close up of each element of Razak and team’s touch should be documented. I’m sure this cost fortune! But lucky meen, razak is also a very good friend of the bride’s father. I heard they used to be housemates back in the US. Ok, enough about the bibliography.. I let them speak for itself.. enjoy the photos and more on the wedding highlight will be in my next post!

Stay tuned…

Meen, Majlis Khatam Quran

January 4, 2010

Its just a day before her matrimony. The family decided to have Majlis Khatam Quran before her big event tomorrow, the akad nikah. Looking sweet and divine as always, Meen and Sara (her lil cousin) recite the Quran in the small holly occasion, witnessed by family, friends and special guests among single mothers and the orphans. The melodious recital of marhaban and doa by the group give blessings to the bride and groom to be. To meen, Datin Faridah and Datuk, thank you for having me there again. To meen, you’ll make a beautiful bride tomorrow and congratulation to you and munir..

The moment i entered the small hall, my eyes were glued at how vibrant, bloomed and beautiful the bouquet of roses are. I must say, it was a grade A quality product. Kudos to the bridal dais designer for such an exquisite touch. The combination of deep red and white roses with a lil bohemian black deco, tall couch and a nice chandelier really brought up the divineness of the king and queen of the day.

I love today’s shooting because i got to work at my own pace, observe more and capture things when the bride does not noticed. Yes, i m not the main photographer for today’s event. The groom hired me to capture candid moments.. The freedom is priceless..

Darviza+Hadi – Solemnization

December 21, 2009

Its been a hectic week full of good things as well as unfortunate things. The good thing is i have another assignment of solemnization in Bandar Sri Putra. The photoshoot went well, the crowd was good, the sister of the bride is also my unimate. So, its more like a get together again. 2 boys and another one to go.. not bad!

The unfortunate thing was i got lost for an hour in order to get to the bride’s house. Looks like i’m not the only one who gets lost. The address was quite confusing.. i ended up touring bandar baru bangi getting in and out of the same exit couple times! It got really tense up as the gas indicator was nearly to the last bar. I crossed my finger and pulled over and ask for direction in a middle of an estate area. There’s one sugar cane stall. There i saw a young village girl, the sugarcane seller. I was skeptic and was wondering if this girl is capable with the directions. I tried my luck and voila’ never underestimate villagers. They know in and out and i manage to follow her detailed directions and got myself on a highway again. Yay! salute sugarcane girl!

I reached at client’s house just on time for the makeup session..

Its a blessing new year.. awal muharam. Bride-to-bes take opportunity of this holly month to hold their matrimony. We reached the mosque on time and saw another couple waiting to solemnize. Looks like my bride and groom has to share the same tok kadi and the same mosque. The groom, hadi managed to utter in just one ‘lafaz’ and they were tied a knot as a man and wife. Alhamdulillah, everything went well.. i hope everything goes well tomorrow too for their reception event at Dewan Seri Endon, Putrajaya. To Darviza and Hadi, congratulations!

Year End Couples..

December 15, 2009

Hey peeps! Looks like everyone is busy with the Y.E.S (year end sale). I’ve been locking up myself in my crib with clients photos. Thousands of ‘em from a corporate event to weddings piled up on my desk. To my clients who have faith and put their trusts in me to capture their big days, thanks for your patience with the album deliveries. Since I am a one woman show, it takes a while to manage things from A-Z, from shooting, to editings, getting them to print and delivered to my clients. Everything is done inhouse by myself.. Tiring process i might say, but receiving good feedbacks and satisfaction from my clients not forgetting new potential clients from old client referrals is worth all the exhaustion. No words could ever describe the feeling! That is why i love my job!

Last week, I’ve been given trust to capture an engagement ceremony of adzimah at their crib at duta kensington residence. She made a wise choice in being different with the color combination. A simple and elegant combo of black and white modern kurung with a bohemian concept custom made veil.. she looks so sweet with a touch of lenny from gorgeously done make up. Everyone was surprised how divine she has transformed!

I might say, the event went smooth with scrumptious banquets. Here’s a teaser of the day.. to ad and syah, stay tuned for the photos..

oh by the way, this uber awesome card was custom made by a very good friend of ad. And she is starting a biz with custom made gifts and cards for baby shower, engagement and stuffs.. i’ll try to get the contact if anyone insterested..

AdzyH: Oh oh! How exciting!! Cannot wait to see the rest of the photos. The card looks amazing! Good job babe! xx
